Sherrod Banks, Life Fellow, was named as the Man of the Year by the Greater Durham Black Chamber of Commerce. The award was given to him in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession, affordable housing and community development, and his unwavering commitment to encouraging positive change within Durham and beyond.
In addition to founding The Banks Law Firm in 1994, he established The Banks Foundation in 2000. The Banks Law Firm focuses on affordable housing and community development law, civil litigation, commercial real estate, estate planning, employment law, and closely held businesses and the Foundation is dedicated to supporting first-time homebuyers transitioning from public rental assistance to private homeownership.
Banks has served as the Chair of the American Bar Association Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law and has been an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in addition to lecturing at Duke University School of Law and North Carolina Central University School of Law.
