Roger A. Fairfax Jr., Fellow, was announced as the Dean of Howard University’s School of Law. His appointment will begin July 1st, 2024. Fairfax will be leaving American University Washington College of Law, where he successfully led a strategic plan that increased student enrollments, expanded faculty diversity and established new programs.
Howard University was chartered in 1867 and the School of Law followed two years later in 1869. The law school was accredited by the ABA and became a member of the Association of American Law Schools in 1931.
Prior to serving as the Dean at American’s College of Law, he was the Patricia Roberts Harris Research Professor of Law and senior associate dean for academic affairs at George Washington University Law School. He serves on the National Institute for Trial Advocacy boards and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. He was recently reappointed by Chief Justice John Roberts to the Judicial Conference of the United States Advisory Committee on Criminal Rules.
