We’d like to think it was a home run seeing everyone at the Fellows events at the 2024 ABA Midyear Meeting in Louisville!
The Fellows events got kicked off with the Fellows CLE Friday afternoon, featuring a presentation from ABF Research Professor Shari Seidman Diamond and a panel discussion featuring Hon. Brian Edwards, Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge, and Gregory J. Bubalo, Becker Law Office, that was moderated by National Fellows Chair Laura V. Farber. You can find the audio recording of the CLE below and pictures from the CLE here.
It wasn’t long before Fellows came together again, meeting that night at the 21c Museum Hotel. The gallery dedicates itself to collecting the art of 21st century that reflects the global nature of contemporary culture and always features an exhibit from a local Kentucky artist. Fellows got to hear from the new Executive Director of the American Bar Endowment, Dana Sturtz Hill, and ABA President-Elect Bill Bay. You can find photos from the event here.
Saturday morning brought us the Fellows Tour to the Kentucky Derby Museum, which we can confidently say was a great time! And if you don’t believe us, check out the group photo below.
That night was full of celebrations, as everyone came together to honor our four awardees: Outstanding Service Award winner Suzette Malveaux, Outstanding Scholar Award winner Michael McCann, Distinguished Life Fellow Award winner Joanne Martin and Outstanding State Chair winner Michael Hernandez. We were also honored to hear from John Rosenberg, a Holocaust survivor, civil rights activist and founder of the Appalachian Research and Defense Fund. Photos from the Reception and Banquet can be found here.
We were so happy to get together with our State Chairs on Sunday morning and share updates about ABF research with them and brainstorm more state events.
As tradition, we wrapped up Fellows events on Sunday night, with the Life Fellow Champagne Toast and Fellows Sing-Along. Check out photos from the toast here.
If you weren’t able to join us in Louisville, don’t forget about our National Fellows Webinar, “Before the Movement: The Hidden History of Black Civil Rights” later this month!
