Professor Jayne Barnard, Virginia Life Fellow, was awarded an Honorary Degree from the College of William & Mary at its 328th Charter Day in February 2021. The award recognized Professor Barnard’s career as a practicing lawyer, scholar, teacher, and President of the Virginia ACLU. It also honored her work as the Chair of the university’s 100th Anniversary of Women, celebrated in 2018-19. William & Mary awarded its first honorary degree in 1756, recognizing Benjamin Franklin.
