Minnesota Life Fellow and Mitchell Hamline School of Law Professor David A. Larson has been elected Chair of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution. Professor Larson is an internationally regarded expert in the topic–he has given 170 presentations in ten countries, published articles in a wide variety of legal publications, and created an Online Dispute Resolution platform for the New York State Unified Court System. He is a Fellow for the National Center for Technology and Dispute Resolution and a Senior Fellow at the Dispute Resolution Institute.
Although Professor Larson has been an instructor since 1981, he broke up his collegiate practice for a year in 1990 to work with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Office as an Appellate Attorney. As the ABA liaison to the New York State Unified Court System, he helped design their online dispute resolution small claims pilot project. His additional professional accomplishments include serving as an arbitrator for the Omaha Tribe and helping to create the “Journal of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Employment.” Professor Larson received his J.D. at the University of Illinois College of Law, where he and his spouse Patricia Pierman Larson recently established an endowed scholarship fund providing financial aid for students. He obtained his LL.M. at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
