Andrada Nicolae (she/her) is a rising senior at Columbia University, where she majors in Human Rights with a specialization in Education, and minors in Statistics.
She has worked as a research assistant in the education department at Barnard College for three semesters, exploring facilities-based inequities in segregated schools in the United States throughout the twentieth century. Her current project is on the influence of federal intervention on a public school in San Francisco, during the Gentlemen’s Agreement of 1907-1908.
Her personal research interests include remediation processes for human rights violations, post-conflict reconstruction, and educational access and rights. She plans to write her senior thesis on transitional justice efforts in Romania in the aftermath of the Revolution of 1989. In addition, Andrada is enthusiastic about print journalism and visual design. She served as a Layout Editor on the 146th and 147th Managing Boards of the Columbia Daily Spectator.
In the future, she plans to pursue a J.D./Ph.D. in order to intertwine her interest in human rights law and passion for research. During the SURF program, Andrada will work with Tom Ginsburg on his project considering the legal characteristics of international organizations.
