Michele B. Goodwin, Massachusetts Fellow and Chancellor’s Professor at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, has published an article for Ms. Magazine entitled “Addressing Racism’s Toll: My Minneapolis Experience”. Professor Goodwin previously held a distinguished professorship at the University of Minnesota Law School and lived in Minneapolis with her family. In the article, she reflects on personal experiences being racially profiled and discriminated against in Minneapolis. She also describes the experiences of her daughter, who left Minneapolis after two years of enduring persistent racism at an elite prep school. Professor Goodwin stresses that racism must be acknowledged and discussed, and that we must improve our democracy with efforts in such areas as housing, employment, policing, and incarceration.
