Judge Hugh Carithers, Life Fellow, took office as the second vice president of Funding Florida Legal Aid (FFLA) on July 1. FFLA was known as The Florida Bar Foundation and rebranded in 2023 to focus on its primary function of legal aid in Florida.
Judge Carithers retired but served as an administrative judge of the Family Division of the Fourth Judicial Circuit and an associate judge on the First District Court of Appeal. Before his judicial service, he spent time as a partner at Terrell Hogan Yegelwel and as an Assistant State Attorney in Jacksonville under State Attorney Ed Austin.
Judge Carithers was appointed to the board of the Florida Bar Foundation in 2019 and had previously served on the board from 1993 to 1993. He received the City of Jacksonville’s Mary Singleton Award in 2004 and the Jacksonville Bar Association’s 2016 Liberty Bell Award.
