Colonel James M. Durant III, Colorado Life Fellow and Chief Counsel for the Office of Science within the US Deparment of Energy, has published an article entitled “An Accountability Cometh: Amend 42 USC Section 1983 and 18 USC Sections 241, 242, Thereby Initiating a Path to Re-Imaging Peace Officers Acting Under the Color of State Law” in the Depaul Journal of Social Justice. In the article, Col. Durant calls for several amendments to the law which would assist American citizens and attorneys in cases against systemic and habitual police abuse and against rogue police officers. He stresses that the proposed amendments would “strengthen the appropriate rule of law, thus reducing systemic state police abuse and helping ensure no other American citizens lose their lives at the hands of rogue state peace officers”.
