Andrea La’Verne Edney, Fellow, was installed as the 2024 President of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Following a year spent as Vice President of the organization, she was sworn in at the organization’s annual National Board Meeting in Biloxi, Mississippi, on Jan. 27. With her swearing in, she becomes the first African-American woman National President of ABOTA.
The American Board of Trial Advocates is an invitation-only association of 7,300 highly experienced trial lawyers and judges who are all dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Seventh Amendment right to civil jury trials. The leading goal of the organization is to educate the American public about the history and value of the right to trial by jury.
Ms. Edney is currently an attorney at Butler Snow, out of their Ridgeland office, where she also serves as the Chair of the firm’s Diversity and Inclusivity Committee. She has been awarded theCapital Area Bar Association’s Professionalism Award in 2021, Mississippi Women Lawyers Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019, and Mississippi College School of Law’s Distinguished Alumni Lawyer of the Year in 2018.
