Doctoral Fellowships
The ABF’s Doctoral Fellowship programs encourage original and significant research on law, the legal profession, and legal institutions. The main objective for the doctoral fellows is to finish their dissertation while taking advantage of working at a residence-based empirical and interdisciplinary research institute.
Doctoral Fellows receive coaching and support to prepare for the academic job market.
ABF/LSA/NSF Doctoral Fellowship in Law and Inequality
With support from the National Science Foundation and the Law and Society Association, the ABF hosts the Doctoral Fellowship Program in Law & Inequality. This fellowship in residence at the ABF supports original empirical and interdisciplinary research on the study of law and inequality.
ABF/Northwestern University Doctoral Fellowship Program in Law & Social Science
The ABF partners with Northwestern University to offer the ABF/Northwestern University Doctoral Fellowship Program. The purpose of this fellowship is to encourage original and significant research on law, the legal profession, and legal institutions.
ABF/AccessLex Institute Doctoral Fellowship Program in Legal & Higher Education
The ABF partners with the AccessLex Institute to support emerging scholars studying issues of access, affordability, or value in legal and higher education. Doctoral research must address significant issues in the field and show promise of a major contribution to social scientific understanding of legal or higher education.
ABF/University of Chicago Doctoral Fellowship Program in Law and Social Science
The ABF partners with the University of Chicago to offer the ABF/University of Chicago Doctoral Fellowship Program in Law and Social Science. Selected scholars participate in this fellowship in residence at the ABF where their original and significant research on law, the legal profession, and legal institutions will be supported.
